In close collaboration with Design Impact and the Organization of Development, Action, and Maintenance (ODAM) in India, Kaleidoscope worked across oceans, cultures and economies to develop fair-trade glycerin soap for Western consumers.
While Design Impact and ODAM managed the product and business development from their home in south India, Kaleidoscope managed the brand identity (look/feel/tone), packaging and overall design direction.
We interviewed fair-trade and eco-conscious consumers to understand their aspirations, while simultaneously exploring branding, naming and product hierarchy. Working closely with the Design Impact team, we incorporated the imagery and values of the community into the brand while balancing fair-trade consumer needs.
Our final package design was the professional runner-up in the Core 77 2012 packaging design award category, as well as an IDEA Awards social impact design finalist, 2012.
